Unfortunately in today’s world contractors that either lack skill or are willing to cut corner exist. It is up to you to protect yourself and your home or business from these types. Now you are probably thinking “Great! How will I know?”
The very first step is to make a call list of the contractors in your area. Keep in mind that this is more of an interview process. Get important information such as time in business and years of experience. Don’t be afraid to ask questions like Why should I choose your company and if hired what is guarantee I will be satisfied with your work. Take note of their responses, it will come in handy in the next step.
Ok so now you have your list and notes. Read over everything carefully and pick 3 or 4 companies that really stood out. These are going to be the companies that you will meet with face to face and get bids from. While in this process always remember that it is your money and home or business on the line. When raising concerns it is the contractor’s job to put you at ease. They should be able to answer all questions and leave you feeling confident in their abilities. During this time, you will also be getting your bids.
Now starting with the bids you should’ve received during your face to face. Throw out the lowest bids! These contractors are usually desperate or cutting corners. Ever heard the saying you get what you pay for? It’s true. At this point, you should have a list of 2 or 3. Take all the info you have gathered and choose the one that stands out the most. Consider knowledge, personality and price.
